Binoy Majumdar

Poet Binoy Majumdar was one of the original members of the movement. Three of his famous poems were published in Hungryalist bulletins. After exhortations by Sunil Gangopadhyay to Shakti Chattopadhyay and Sandipan Chattopadhyay to leave the Hungryalist movement,  the Chattopadhyay duo started working against the Hungryalist movement ; their main aim was to get their works published in a commercial venture. Binoy got annoyed with their machinations and himself published a bulletin abusing the duo.  Thereafter he left the movement in disgust.

Sharad Deora, editor of Hindi magazine ANIMA,  at that time wrote a book on Binoy Majumdar and the Hungryalists titled COLLEGE STREET KA NAYA MASIHA.

  1. Prof. Sarmistha Biswas says:

Binoy Majumer has used mathematical concepts in his poetry. Legacy is, usually poets avoid mathematics; and therefore, he was not properly understood by the Begali poets and Binoy was not most popular one, though exceptional. During last few years Professor Narayan Ch Ghosh, mathematician, has analysed his poems from mathematical stand point. He has written number of articles in different journals. Those extra-ordinary writings have opened a new window for assessment of Binoy from different point. Now revaluation has started.
Professor has written article on phire esho, chaka contradicting the concept ‘a funny truncation of Gayatri’s surname’. Analysing the then social conditions Ghosh says Chaka pragatir pratik (Wheel is symbol of progress) which Binoy called to come back to steer social movement for progress. According to Binoy all progress is manifestation of extreme love.

  2. Kajal Saha says:

Prof Mihir Chakraborty has written one article on Binoy Majumer’s work. He included his article in his book published by Nandimokh.

  3. Md. Hanif says:

Perhaps no article has written by Samir Roychoudhury analysing Binoy’s mathematical ideas in his poetry. Samir Roychoudhury is a poet.

  4. Md. Hanif says:

was it true that Binoy got annoyed with their machinations and himself published a bulletin abusing the duo. Thereafter he left the movement in disgust ? Or in the mean time his ideological development inspired him to move other way ? At least his writings later says so.
